WHY was JULY The 31 Days of German Riesling?

This past July we focussed on Germany, the historical epicenter of Acidhound Glory. We thank all for a most amazing 31 days of frenzied celebration. ONWARD with Summer of Riesling 2011!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's simple. We love Riesling. We love Riesling from all parts of the planet. But the birthplace of Rieslingmania, the place where cultivation of the grape took place with the greatest focus historically is Germany. As devotees of this noble grape, we always give thanks for the intersection of culture, history and terroir that each glass of the juice represents.

Within our passionate, nationwide, frenzied celebration of Summer of Riesling, we have set aside the month of July for a special aknowledgement of German Riesling. The 31 Days of German Riesling! Participants in this aspect of Summer of Riesling will, each in their own way, highlight their passion for the wines of the Mosel, the Pfalz and beyond.

60% of the world's Riesling vineyards are in Germany.

The tremendous diversity of soils and microclimates combined with the deep love, dedication and cultivation of the Riesling grape serve as inspiration for all Acidhounds.

They have the best Wine Queens, who often indulge our silly jokes and pranks with regal good humor and forebearance.

Our Riesling Overlord Grieco has been mulling over the themes of The 31 Days of German Riesling. For your contemplation & careful study: his observations as well as some essential facts concerning The Grape and The Land. A must read for all Acidhounds, click here.

We urge you to visit Wines of Germany's 31 Days page as well!

"A Halbtrocken Riesling has less than 18 grams of residual sugar (remember, a 12oz. can of Coke has 39 grams!)"
